Officers #7 - Minor Repairs During Battle

Officer Leslie can repair the hull of the ship during battle, and allow players to destroy targets that are larger than they normally hit, as long as he can do it before the battle hits 100 rounds. Once you hit 100 rounds, the battle ends.

Leslie also worked against large armada targets, as long as the damage a player gets is not bigger than what Leslie repairs.

Lesslie is part of the Shakedown Crew, which occasionally shows up in the store. This pack ($20) has good officers to increase the XP gained of ships in battle. These officers are paired well with Pike and a Damage Mitigation Officer (Chen or T'Laan).

Officers #5: Below Deck Officers Driving Bridge Officer Abilities

Staffing a ship with the right crew helps to maximize a ships ability, but once the Bonus Stats are maxed out for the ship, points can still count towards Bridge Officer Special Abilities, like Morale, Hull Breach, or Burning. By stacking the points beyond the ship ability, this makes the ship stronger than the stats display.

The other not so obvious one is shield restoration based on Defense Stats when Moral is Active, which doesn't show on Ship Stats.

Officers #6: The Need For Speed

Overall, Pan provides the best boost to impulse speed in the game, compared to Klaa and Burnham, but Burnham is also a good officer to use for PvP for her officer ability. Notice how the slower ships run faster with Burnham than with Klaa. The addition of Kuron adds speed to the ship as well, after a ship is destroyed. If Kuron is maxed out, his boost is just like Pan with full synergy.
This chart compares the impulse speeds of the main speed officers, to include the new Kuron.

For maximum impulse speed, which is useful for harassing other players or making quick getaways, pair Kuron with Pan for the best results. The chart below shows how Pan with Kuron is the fastest possible options, and the 2nd best options based on the ship and promotion level of Kuron.

This chart shows how to get the fastest ship that nobody can catch, by pairing Kuron with Pan in STFC

Officers #4: Hostile Grinding Officers

Having the right officers on the bridge will reduce the hostiles effectiveness and make your ship last longer. High end Cadets work great, but if you have Pike and Moreau even at entry level, they will out perform a topped out cadet crew.

Updated to include the TNG grinding officers:
Hostile crew doesn’t work against mission targets.
Use the Battle Triangle and a special ability (Moral, Hull Breach, Burning) crew. For best results, use the battle triangle and ship abilities to your advantage. This graphic shows Cadet Uhura, Beverly, and Pike as captains. Then shows when to use Chen or T'Laan against certain hostiles.

It is also important to understand how the math works with the hostile grinding crews and why it is important to level them up as soon as you can. Below is a chart showing the max effective weapons reduction of Chen and T'Laan when using Pike and Moreau. Most players will refer to these loadouts in shorthand as PMC or PMT to indicate Pike, Moreau and either Chen or T'Laan.
This chart shows the behind the scenes math of why the officers work better than others against hostiles. This shows the equations, and charts based on officer promotion levels to quickly determine the effective hostile weapons reduction of certain types (energy or kinetic).

If going after Mining ships, Fed and Rom mining ships are Energy (use Chen) while Klingon mining ships are Kinetic (use T'Laan)

Officers #3: Top Tier Officers

Many of us have collected Officer Badges and Independent credits, they are for promoting Officers once enough shards are collected. For more ways of collecting badges, see Discovery #3 - Refinery

Some officers require more than Officer XP points to promote them. Some require credits from a faction, and when at a high enough level, a badge as well to achieve the next tier. Example: Epic Officer Gorkon requires 1000 Klingon Credits as well as Officer XP to be promoted to tier 2 (lvl 6-10). In the picture below, Otto requires independent credits (purchased at Augment Faction Store) to be promoted, and requires a class badge.

By focusing on a faction and redeeming for officer shards, eventually you will max the officer shards, and start collecting Officer XP, and Transporter Patterns. These can be redeemed for the Epic officer you really want, but cant get.
When you get a recruit shard for an officer that you have already maxed on shards, it is typically converted to Officer XP points. When higher (rare) officers are collected, transporter patterns get awarded which can be redeemed for an Epic Officer of your choice. Pay attention to the $5 and $20 Officer packs, as they will usually include loads of recruit tokens that helps to max out officers faster.

Once the Epic Officer of the faction you are collecting from is maxed, a massive amounts of Transport Patterns can be earned so you can level up another Epic officer of your choice.
By working on faction reputation, and redeeming for officers, you will eventually collect the maximum shards for those officers. Once you max the shards for an officer, it is converted into Officer XP (Uncommon), or Transporter Patterns (Rare and Epic).

Officers #2: Special Ability Crews

Match your crews together to get a good synergy, but also look for the captains Special Ability. When that ability is activated, it will enhance the other officers on the bridge, which will change how your ship performs in battle. This can include restoring shields, delaying opponents turn, stronger weapons, better dodge, etc.

Hidden Background Abilities:
Ability Affects Background Function
Morale Own Ship + ~25-30% (Armor Piercing, Shield Piercing, Accuracy) when active
Hull Breach Opponent +50% to Total Critical Hit Damage when active
BurningOpponent-1% Total Hull Health from battle start while Burning per round
Math from contributor: Gregor               Functions are not cumulative

Moral only affects your ship, while Hull Breach and Burning affects the opposing ship. Moral is mostly used for defense so your ship lasts longer (Explorers). Hull Breach is for short battles where a lot of damage occurs in the first few rounds (Interceptors). Burning is usually for the longer battles on ships with a lot of hull and armor (Battleships).

Some officers are not really effective in PvP or Armada combat until they are tiered up

Officers #1: The Right Stuff, for the Right Job

By paying attention to the officers assigned to the bridge of the ship, a ships abilities can be greatly enhanced. This can save on time, and same on other resources. By assigning officers that works well together on the bridge, you gain a “Synergy Bonus” that enhances the Captains primary ability. If the primary ability is to mine a certain material, it will greatly increase the mining rate.
